A new position has been created with a focus on environmental issues, which will see Wingfield ward Councillor Sarah Allen join the cabinet, to take on the ‘cleaner, greener communities’ role.

Her portfolio will extend to Streetpride services, libraries, leisure facilities and parks.

The appointment comes as Coun Taiba Yasseen leaves the cabinet and deputy leader Coun Gordon Watson takes on increased responsibilities.

His portfolio already included children’s services, but will now also include overseeing the way councillors engage with the neighbourhoods they serve.

Coun Read said the new environmental role was very important to communities and he added: ““I would like to thank Coun Yasseen for her commitment and dedication, leading our work to introduce the new arrangements to support councillors in their community activity, as well as actively championing culture and leisure activities.

“As Deputy Leader, Coun Watson is ideally placed to continue the important work of changing how we engage with our communities.”
