Rotherham children’s home earmarked for closure

A children’s home in Rotherham could close under plans to have more children cared for by families.

Rotherham Council is considering closing St Edmund’s care home in Thurcroft as part of a drive to have more children living with foster parents.

Councillor Watson, Deputy Leader, said: “The children and young people we look after deserve the very best care – we believe that this is best provided in a family setting, such as by foster families, and are now reviewing all of our services in line with this long-term plan.

“The size and style of the home means it is not able to provide the kind of family-setting care that we are aspiring to, and is not delivering the quality of care we expect. We are proposing to close the home in the New Year.”
