Rotherham abuse trial: Girl threatened with rape after being taken to Sheffield house

Sheffield Crown Court heard the girl was taken to a B&Q car park in Rotherham by defendant Arshid Hussain, who had allegedly started a sexual relationship with her when she was 15.

She said he ordered her to get in a car with four Asian men, who drove her to a house which she believed to be somewhere in Sheffield.

The woman – known as Girl I – said she was taken to an upstairs bedroom at the property, where there were ‘quite a few’ men.

The now 31-year-old woman said she tried to contact Arshid Hussain when some of the men in the room made attempts to sexually assault her.

She said: “I had been there a while, I were trying to phone him to see where he was.

“A few of the males were trying to put their hands down my trousers. I was trying to push them off.”

The woman told the jury the men eventually let her leave the property and got her back in a car.

She said: “I was saying I wanted to go. They didn’t tell me where we were going.

“They said, ‘We are going to rape you’.”

Tahir Khan QC, representing Arshid Hussain, asked whether the statement had been made in a ‘laughing or serious’ way.

She said: “I think it was in a serious way.”

Mr Khan asked whether the woman was sure Arshid Hussain was the person who told her to get in the car with the men at B&Q. She said she was certain it was him.

Arshid Hussain denies one count of attempting to procure a girl under 21 to have unlawful sexual intercourse with another in relation to this complainant.

He is among seven defendants who deny a variety of historic child sexual exploitation offences.

The woman later went on to have a two-and-half year relationship with Hussain’s brother and co-defendant Basharat Hussain when she was in her later teenage years.

Under cross-examination from Gillian Batts, representing Basharat Hussain, the woman said it was fair to say she had been in love with him.

Miss Batts suggested to the woman she had not accurately described an incident in which she said Basharat had smashed her head into a pub window during an argument, resulting in her going to hospital.

Miss Batts said the complainant ‘went for Bash’ and when he pushed her away, she hit her head on the window.

The woman said this was not the case.

Miss Batts said: “Bash has never been violent to you.”

The woman said: “Yes he has.”
