Rotherham abuse trial: Baby born ‘after two defendants raped woman at pub’

The woman, who is now 36, told Sheffield Crown Court her sexual abuse started at the age of 11 at the hands of ‘Mad Ash’, a man the prosecution say is defendant Arshid Hussain.

Hussain, 40, of High Street, East Cowick, Goole, is one of five men and two women who deny being part of a Rotherham child grooming ring that operated in the town for more than 10 years.

The woman said that after years of abuse, she moved away from Rotherham and returned when she was about 20.

In a video interview with police played to the jury, the complainant said she had seen Hussain and co-defendant Sajid Bostan, 38, of Broom Avenue, Broom, Rotherham, at the Prince of Wales Hotel in Masbrough.

The woman said ‘Ash’ had pinned her down in an upstairs room, then Saj held her legs while Ash had sex with her.

She said: “After he finished, he spat in my face and said ‘Here Saj you can do whatever you want now’.”

She said Bostan then had sex with her while ‘Ash’ pinned her down and her legs were tied in the bedsheet.

She found out around one-and-a-half months later that she was pregnant.

The woman said after the child was born, ‘one night Saj and Ash came up to the house where I was’.

She said a knife was put to her chest and threats were made to take the child to Pakistan.

The woman said she had been 11 years old when she first met ‘Mad Ash’ and had originally considered him to be her ‘boyfriend’.

She said she was forced to have sex with him and would be attacked if she refused.

The woman said that on one occasion, Bostan, ‘Mad Ash’ and his brother known as ‘Bono’ had taken her to The Wicker in Sheffield for chicken and chips, before forcing her into the boot of a car and driving her to London, where she was made to have sex with several Pakistani men in their 20s.

She said that Ash had said she needed to have sex with the men as he owed them money and if she refused she would be left in London.

The woman said that in another incident, Ash had put a lit cigarette out on her right breast before flicking it into her hair, setting it alight.

She also said she had tried to tell staff at her children’s home about what was happening to her, ‘but they just didn’t seem to want to know.’.
