Steeldogs skipper Ben Morgan says: “The win in Guildford was probably the most pleasing win of the season and even the lads who have been here a few years reckon its up there amongst our best performances ever.
“I can’t remember the last time we got a shutout. We’ve said for weeks that Jimmy Hadfield deserved a shut-out and we’re pleased to get one for the team – even if he had to share it with Brandon Stones following his game penalty! Guildford probably thought that they were going to do well against a back-up netminder on a five minute penalty but instead Bosas grabbed the winner.
“After the Bracknell game we had to put things right. We could have probably played for another 24 hours and we still wouldn’t have scored that night. It was just one of those games where we created chances but couldn’t put them away.
“I was just chomping at the bit to get out onto the ice and fix it and the team took that mind-set into Guildford, played to the game plan and it paid off”.
On Sunday, Dogs take on the champions. “Basingstoke seem to have a taken on the mantle of the most physical team in the league this season, whilst we still want to be quite dominant on the ice, we have a different approach now.”
Morgan added: Basingstoke are one of those teams that are tricky to play, they have real grit about them and they are also stacked with quality. When we played them last they took a few liberties on the ice as we had guys missing but this time we should have a full line-up so it will be interesting to see what roles some of their players decide to play on Sunday”.
