Roof idea for town church

A ONE-thousand year old Rotherham church is considering using a new type of roofing after a spate of lead thefts.

Treeton Parish Church, one of the oldest in South Yorkshire, has been targeted nine times this year by thieves who have stripped lead from the roof.

Parts of the roof have now had to be covered with tarpaulin to keep out the rain.

Today, the Rector, Rev David Bent, revealed the church was now looking at a more permanent solution by using new form of stainless steel covering in place of the lead.

CCTV cameras have already been installed and there are plans to cut back trees in the churchyard to improve security.
