Romanian choir on tour

A CHOIR from Romania is due to visit Bawtry Hall Conference Centre for a single performance during a nationwide tour on Wednesday evening.

The visit is part of a two-week tour of the United Kingdom by the Maranata Baptist Church Choir to raise money for an orphanage charity set up in 1990 after the fall of Communism.

Maranata is the largest Baptist Church in the city of Arad in south-west Romania and looks after 40 children in three orphanages.

As a private orphanage charity it relies heavily upon gifts from concerned people in the west with more than 95 per cent of its income raised in this way. The orphanages never have sufficient money to buy food and clothing for the children, carry out repairs and pay salaries.

The Maranata Aid and Care Charitable Trust has organised the concert at the South Parade venue and there will be no charge although a collection will be made.
