The game, which gets underway at 2.30pm, sees Sheffield’s own Hellcats up against Preston Roller Girls. The exciting double header will also feature Fierce Valley Roller Girls taking on Manchester Roller Derby at 12.30pm in the latest round in the Tier 3 North British Roller Derby Championships.

The Hellcats rose to victory in 2015, conquering the November Playoffs, and won promotion from the Tier 4 North division. Preston have also stepped up from Tier 4 this year, guaranteeing a challenging game.

“A Roller Derby bout is no ordinary sporting event, and amongst the action you’ll find cake stalls, all the roller derby merchandise you can buy, a lot of colourful and sparkly hot pants, and a raffle,” a Hallam spokesperson said.

“The brave amongst you might like to try our ‘suicide seats’. These ring-side crash mats provide the best view of the action, though there’s always the chance that you may end up with a skater on your lap!

“If you’re not sure what roller derby is all about, you’ll find a full explanation in your free programme, though feel free to grab a skater for a chat - when they’re off the track!

“You’ll recognise a roller derby player by their full set of protective gear, helmets, tongue-in-cheek names (think ‘Olive A Sudden’, ‘Goldiblocks’, and ‘Abbotoir’), and of course, their rollerskates.

“It’s a full-contact sport which is fast, fun, and often very strategic.”

Tickets are £8 on the door, and U12s go free.
