STARS took to Twitter to exchange friendly banter and engage in a few wind-ups as Michael Vaughan’s celebrity cricket match got underway.
Vaughan himself encouraged fans to head to Dore by tweeting: “Come to Abbeydale Park Sports club to see @RobbieSavage8 and @MrDanWalker debut... comedy gold.”
Cricketers Paul Collingwood and Matthew Hoggard both responded.
“I’m sure @RobbieSavage8 will dance down and miss one - #foxtrot,” quipped Collingwood, followed by Matthew Hoggard who said: “Looking forward to playing with @flintoff11, Simon Jones and Harmy - only Ashley Giles missing.”
Neil Fairbrother warned: “Steel toe caps for all!!!” and Freddie Flintoff joked to pals: “Can I bowl at @RobbieSavage8 today please?”
Footballer Gary Neville, who attended to take part in a question-and-answer session along with Geoff Boycott, asked his Twitter followers: “Any tips for @RobbieSavage8 and @MrDanWalker facing Big Devon Malcolm? I’ve got some tips for Big Devon. Send his number!”
Football Focus TV presenter Dan Walker, who lives in Hunters Bar, said: “I’m off to host @VaughanCricket’s 20/20 charity match at Abbeydale, bowl my first over in a decade, and no doubt take a nasty one in the ribs.
“Ready for action at Abbeydale. Carnage awaits!”
Later he posted a picture of Robbie Savage dressed up in his cricket gear, with the words: “The most terrifying sight in cricket...”
