The incident, at 4.30pm on Wendesday, occured when a man and a woman entered McColl’s on Ecclesall Road South and began stealing groceries.

When challenged by the staff, the woman, aged in her 30s, then threatened to ‘stab everyone’ and said ‘we have drug habits, we need this more than you’, according to the eyewitness who spoke to The Star.

Mum-of-three Natasha Green said: “I was waiting at the Post Office counter and the woman at the next counter along was keeping an eye on these two people in the back of the shop.

“They had been in before, stealing coffee, apparently.

“So when they started to leave having taken groceries, the woman at the other counter shot out to confront them and told them to stop.

“The woman said ‘we have drug habits to feed, we need this more than you,’ and when challenged further she said ‘I will stab you. I will stab everyone in this store.”

“The staff member then backed off and let them go.

“Nobody saw a knife, but she said she was going to stab them.”

Ms Green then went home and called the police.

She described the woman as aged in her 30s, white, and tall and large, with bleached red hair scraped into a messy bun.

She said the man was also white, aged about 20, scruffy, thin and tall.
