A RAFT of environmental improvements have been carried out in a South Yorkshire village.
Carlton has been transformed by Barnsley Council’s Green Corridor programme over the last three years – which aimed to boost the area’s environment.
This year, the scheme has delivered highway improvements on Grays Road, Briggs Street, Bramah Street and Wood Lane.
The Green Corridor aims to improve the environmental conditions and appearance in Carlton and other parts of Barnsley.
To do this the council worked with South Yorkshire Housing Association to build 10 energy efficient houses at Bramah Street in Carlton which new residents will be able to move into in late August.
Coun Tim Cheetham, council cabinet spokesman for environment, said: “The Green Corridor programme has helped to improve Carlton’s appearance by implementing a range of environmentally- friendly projects.
“The new homes at Bramah Street are a shining example of what can be achieved when organisations work together in successful partnerships.”
