Bikers have been using Wardsend Cemetery, off Club Mill Lane, Owlerton, as a track - damaging graves and the area around the war memorial.

The cemetery is a disused Victorian burial ground dating back 160 years and has around 30,000 graves.

On Sunday, South Yorkshire Police's off-road bike team visited the cemetery in the hope of catching culprits in the act

A force spokesman said: "It was sad to see the damage being caused by off-road bikes and quads especially around the Cenotaph and grave stones.

"We will be back. If you are caught here, you will face prosecution."

Anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
