Is the river shaking off its reputation?

I was on the X78 bus coming into Rotherham Bus Station earlier today, when I spied what I thought to be a heron standing statue-like in the river near the Chapel on the Bridge.

So, upon alighting the bus, I popped around to the location and managed to get a few pictures.

The locals seemed surprised to hear/see a heron in the locality.

So maybe this is a sign of a river becoming increasing amenable to fish and other forms of aquatic life and finally shaking off the reputation of being the most polluted river in Europe.
