Rival Sheffield United and Wednesday fans to play in charity game

Sheffield United and Sheffield Wednesday fans are to meet for a local derby to raise cash for charity.

The Sheffield Fans Derby at Hallam FC’s ground in Sandygate on Thursday, April 14 is to raise money for Sheffield Hospitals Charity.

Both teams will field a minimum of 16 players who each have to raise a minimum of £40 in sponsorship.

It will be the 13th time rival Blades and Owls will lock horns for charity.

Last year the game raised £4,903.27, which was donated to the helipad appeal at the Northern General Hospital, which is paying for a new helipad to be built closer to the emergency trauma centre in a bid to speed up the time it takes for patients to get medical attention.

In 2014 the game raised £5,664 for neonatal intensive care in Sheffield,
