Ringers go back in time

Have your say

APRIL 1911 was a very important time for the Ecclesfield Handbell Ringers.

The ringers worked tirelessly to organise a contest which attracted teams from all across Yorkshire.

Ringers arrived by train at Ecclesfield Railway staion from destinations far and wide.

They were then transported by horse and cart to Gatty Hall where the contest took place.

Now, 100 years on, the music performed by the Ecclesfield team in the contest is set to ring out again.

The piece – entitled Les Cloches de Bridal a selection of wedding music including the Bridal March, hymn tunes, and the Wedding March – will make up part of a summer concert to be performed on Saturday, June 25, at Gatty Hall, Priory Road, Ecclesfield.

The concert starts at 7pm when the ringers will be joined by the Grenoside Singers.
