Rewards in recycle project

YOUNGSTERS at a Rotherham school have been teaching their elders a lesson in recycling.

The children, from Thurcroft Infant School, joined in a project to “reduce, re-use and recycle” and took the message home to tell their mums and dads.

Now they are to be rewarded for their efforts when Recycling Reg - Rotherham’s green mascot - pops along to assembly to give them a certificate in front of their proud parents.

Sarah Thornton, education officer for the project, said: “It has been a real pleasure working at Thurcroft and the parent assembly is a great way of bringing everything together and getting the message out to all the family.

“Having Recycling Reg there too is a real treat for the children, and helps them remember to recycle.”

The project is being run by Waste Watch in partnership with Rotherham Council, with funding coming from the Big Lottery Fund’s Community Recycling and Economic Development Programme.
