Part-performance, part night out, the show is inspired by rent parties of the 1920s which were held in people’s flats to help pay their rent.

The five performers, host Stuart Bowden, singing mum Kamille Gordon, dancer Lenai Russell, geek AJ LeRoy and voguing sensation Jason Guest, explain to the audience what it was like to be young, black and queer in that time.

There stories are poignant and political and they are very passionate. Audience participation is a big part of the show, with each person given £80 of rent vouchers and asked to pay the performers at the end of their acts.

At the end of the show, people are encouraged to stay and enjoy a drink and a dance with these fierce and fabulous performers.

Rent Party is showing each night until Saturday at 8pm at the Crucible Theatre.
