Every care service in the UK is inspected by officers from the Care Quality Commission with results published and ratings published on their website.

Officers inspect the services to make sure they’re providing care that’s safe, caring, effective, responsive to people’s needs and well-led.

The CQC then use this evidence to judge the quality of care before publishing reports on the service they inspect.

A rating to show the overall judgement on quality of care is also included ranging from Outstanding, Good, Requires Improvement and Inadequate.

There are almost 100 Good care homes in Sheffield, one Outstanding and five that are Inadequate.

Here, the Sheffield Star is listing the 23 care homes that Require Improvement; meaning the service isn’t performing as well as it should and have been told how it must improve.
