Reunited by gift of life

Have your say

Jo Macfarlane and Gordon Henry deserve a truly happy ending.

The couple split up almost 20 years ago but are now back together after Gordon gave his ex partner a life-saving gift - the second kidney she so desperately needed.
Both admit it was an ‘unusual situation’ for them to wake up on the same ward at Sheffield’s Northern General Hospotal after years of separation.
And, it grew even more bizarre when their love blossomed once again.
But it is also an amazing story and one the couple hope will encourage other people to become organ donors. We wish them the best of luck .

On the road to trouble

The bottleneck that is junction 34 of the M1 is a long-standing problem. It is obvious that increased capacity is needed, especially with plans for a new Ikea store. Sadly, it appears there are no plans to tackle the problem as improvements to the junction have been omitted from a shortlist of transport schemes. Sheffield Chamber of Commerce is concerned and we share its view. How can a major access route which stretches from Sheffield to Rotherham be ignored? It needs to be tackled so the junction can cope now and with the traffic increase in the future.

On your bike for the tour

What a sight on the streets of the city centre last night as the crowds turned out to cheer on cyclists taking part in the Claremont British Cycling grand prix. Undoubtedly, the Olympics and the two recent British victories in the Tour de France has heightened interest in the sport. Last night was just a flavour of what could be to come as Le Grand Depart of the Tour de France ends up in Sheffield next year. It will be a huge boost to our profile and let us hope even more fans turn out to cheer them on.
