Returning ankle injury won't stop Kell Brook's drive for a fresh honours says Kid Galahad

That’s the warning from gym-mate Kid Galahad, who predicts the former world champion will return to the ring to win new honours.

Brook suffered a recurrence of an old ankle injury and pulled out of Saturday’s Dillian Whyte v Joseph Parker Sky Box Office show in London.

The Sheffield super welterweight had been due to fight Canadian Brandon Cook. But says Galahad (aka Abdul Barry Awad): “He twisted his ankle in training - he’s done it before and it’s the same one.

“The kid he was fighting was a tough opponent. He is no mug, but the ankle is obviously important in getting in and out of range and it made sense to pull out.

“That’s how it goes, he has missed another pay-day and is sicker than anybody” said Galahad, who is awaiting a featherweight world title eliminator against American based Toka Kahn Clary.

“Kell has still got that hunger, though. He comes to the gym every day - he is more on it now, I think, than he was three or four years ago.

“He is firing on all cylinders, looks after himself and is settled down more.”

Brook is a regular stay-over guest at Galahad’s house so he can be nearer the Ingle gym.

“He is training hard and should be back in September.

“So people should not rule him out. He can be world champion again.

“That Mexican guy who beat Liam Smith last weekend in Las Vegas (Jaime Munguia; WBO title) - Kell would beat him.”

Meanwhile, Cook has been compensated after losing out first on a date with Brook - then his injured substitute Sam Eggington.

Cook told World Boxing News that promoter Eddie Hearn had offered a payment to help ease the frustration.

Eggington posted on twitter: “I want to say sorry to Brandon Cook. We would have had a great fight!

“I’m absolutely gutted but hopefully, we can get it on in September.”

Cook replied: “I hope you recover quickly and we can give the fans a great fight on the Amir Khan undercard or even the Anthony Joshua bill.”
