Retro: Amazing Green Un club match angler championship double for Kev Parkes

When Kevin Parkes triumphed in the 2005 final at Kiveton Hall he said it had always been a dream.

But a year on at Claxby Fisheries, near Market Rasen, he went one better and became the first angler in history to be crowned our King of Clubs for a second time.

To win the Championship in successive years is an unparalleled achievement, the stuff of fantasy.

In the aftermath a stunned Parks dedicated this second win to his father Frank Parkes, who encouraged him to fish as a lad.

For most it was a tough match yet, to a man, the competitors praised the venue. Claxby is a fabulous fishery in a picturesque setting but it fished incredibly hard on the day.

Expectations of high weights quickly evaporated and it became a battle of scratching skills.

Result - 1 Kev Parkes 22-14; 2 Lee ABakanowic 13-14; 3 Colin Pridmore 10-4; 4 John Dickens 7-14; 5 Kev Feasr 7-10.
