A MAN accused of murdering his cousin in a shooting at a party will face a retrial after jurors failed to reach a verdict.

Abdi Omar, aged 25, killed Deeq Ali during a birthday celebration at the Spital Hill Plaza in Burngreave, Sheffield, last October.

He allegedly fired the gun into a group of revellers ushering him out of the venue, hitting Deeq, 18.

Omar, of Lopham Street, Burngreave, denied murder, but admitted pulling the trigger without meaning to hurt anyone.

The jury failed to reach a majority verdict on the murder charge after more than 10 hours of deliberations.

They unanimously acquitted Omar of threatening a 16-year-old with a gun hours before the killing.

A date for the retrial will be fixed later this month.
