Retail park in Sheffield evacuated after power outage in the area

Staff and shoppers have been evacuated from a retail park in Sheffield after an unexpected problem caused a power outage in the area.

A power outage across Norton has seen the evacuation of staff and shoppers at stores inside the St James Retail Park in Sheffield

It is estimated that over 1,200 properties and premises in the area were affected after an unexpected problem caused the power to cut out.

The retail site is home to shops such as Aldi, M&S, Next, Pets at Home, Specsavers, Wilko and Superdrug as well as Greggs, Costa and the Card factory.

Northern Power Grid have issued an update saying: “We're aware of an unplanned power cut in S7 and S8.

“The power cut affecting your property has been caused by an unexpected problem with the cables or equipment that serve your area.

“We are currently working hard to restore your power. However, we are unable to provide an accurate restoration time.”
