The results speak for themselves
Your story in Monday's Star about Lowfield Primary School ('City School Defies The Odds') was a reminder to us all of what can be achieved by dedicated teachers, inspired children and supportive parents and governors.
Schools in inner-city areas are too often disregarded by those who do not understand the hard work that goes on inside them to raise standards.
At Lowfield, from the headteacher and governors down, there is a real commitment to prepare children for their futures and the results speak for themselves.
To be ranked in the top 10 per cent nationally is a remarkable badge of honour.
But it’s not just about academic success. At Lowfield there is a determination to break down any barriers of language, culture and race that could lead to misunderstanding and instead create a community where children can be proud of who they are and at the same time respect all those around them. It presents us with a model of the future which is truly exciting. If these are the children of the next generation who will take our city and our country into the years ahead we have much to feel positive about.
So let’s be generous in our praise for all those who contributed to their success including the local authority whose support and guidance for this maintained school must not be overlooked.
Lowfield is a signal to us all that when the community comes together with a clear purpose there is little that cannot be achieved.
