The Pitcher and Piano chain plans to open a bar in one of the ground-floor units once the £5 million scheme is complete.

The building on Holly Street, next to City Hall, will be converted into offices, as well as three restaurants.

Developers obtained the funding last month. Quest Property, part of the Barnsley-based Brook Group, has been approved for a £2.7 million loan administered by the Local Enterprise Partnership and the European Union.

It has also been approved by Sheffield Council for a £1.1m grant from the Government.

The firm is bringing its own money to create a £5m pot. It first announced plans for the building in 2011.

Work, including the construction of a conservatory, is set to last a year. The project will create 90 jobs and accommodate 130 office workers.

An application has been submitted to the council to put up signs and a menu board for the restaurant.

The building opened in 1988 when the NUM relocated from London.

Pitcher and Piano has 18 bars across the country.
