Residents urged to register to vote

Doncaster Council is encouraging residents to make sure they are on the electoral roll as part of National Voter Registration Day, which is marked today.

Today marks the anniversary of the Great Reform Act of 1832 which first introduced voter registration, and the national event has been organised by Bite The Ballot and aims to get 250,000 new voters.

Chief Executive and Returning Officer Jo Miller said: “If you don’t register you can’t vote on who represents you in your local council, Parliament or in Europe. Across the world people have died fighting for the right to vote.”

Over-16s can register to vote once they are 18. For more details call 01302 734 658.
