Residents 'scared to go out' after murder on Sheffield street

Residents have spoken of their shock and fear after a woman was found murdered on a quiet culd-de-sac in a Sheffield suburb today.

A police probe is now underway after the body of a woman was found at 12:30pm today in a bungalow on Archdale Close, in the Manor area of Sheffield.

The woman has not yet been formally identified and a forensic post-mortem is due to take place.South Yorkshire police arrested two men on suspicion of murder and both remain in police custody.

A cordon in the area has been lifted, but the house remains sealed off with a police guard while forensic experts examine the scene.

Police would like to hear from anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious around the time of the incident.

According to reports, the woman is believed to be in her 30s, but this is not yet confirmed.

Tony Cotton, 54, who lives in a nearby bungalow, said: "I heard the police helicopter and that was the first I knew of anything. There was quite a lot of police here too.

"I've seen her a couple of times, she was nice to talk to.

"You just don't expect it on your doorstep, it feels rotten. It makes you scared to go out, it could happen to me."

Jack Walton, 71, has lived in on the street for seven years. He said: "I didn't hear anything or see anything. We've had a few crimes though recently. Neighbours are friendly, but some keep themselves to themselves."
