Residents invited to find out about Sheffield street improvements

STREETS Ahead highways improvements are to start in central Sheffield.

The £2 billion scheme involves resurfacing every road and footpath in the city and providing LED street lights, which use less energy but produce brighter illumination.

A roadshow about the work in the city centre, involving streets around Sheffield Hallam University and The Showroom cinema, is being held in the Winter Garden on Friday, February 8, between noon and 4pm.

Coun Jack Scott, council cabinet member for streetscene, said: “We hold roadshows so residents and businesses can find out more about Streets Ahead in their area.

“The Winter Garden event is different as we’ll be providing information about the whole contract, as well as the south east city centre works.

“Streets Ahead will bring great benefits to Sheffield, especially in the next five years, which is when most of the improvement works will take place.

“We’re keen for people to find out more about this and encourage as many people as possible to come along to the Winter Garden event.”
