Residents express shock after young man's body is discovered in Sheffield home

Police, paramedics and crime scene investigators were called to Constable Road in Gleadless Valley at about 5pm last night.

Officers have confirmed that a man aged in his 30s was discovered at the property. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

Neighbours told how the man is believed to have lived at the property with his mum, aged in her 50s.

One man, who lives on the same street but did not want to be identified, said: "The police were out here for five or six hours.

"Everyone on the street was looking out of their windows wondering what had happened.

"We have since heard about the man's death. It is terrible. They are nice people. He was only young, so it will have come as a shock I'm sure."

Other residents said how the major response from emergency services - which included at least five police vehicles and an ambulance - had caused them to wonder what type of incident was unfolding.

A man who has lived on the estate for 60 years said: "You never know what it is when that many police cars are out. A lot of people have been talking about it this morning.

"But at least they did respond in high numbers."

Barbara Spooner, aged 87, who has lived in the area for 55 years, added: "There is always something going off on the estate. When I first loved it here it was different, everyone knew each other and it was quieter."

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Emergency services were called at around 5pm on Wednesday to a property in Constable Road, Gleadless, Sheffield, where the body of a man in his 30s was found.

"There are not thought to be any suspicious circumstances surrounding the man's death."
