Residents evacuated from flats in Sheffield

Residents were evacuated from a block of flats in Sheffield after an early morning blaze.

They were woken from their sleep after a resident in the block on Richmond Street, Pitsmoor, Sheffield, discovered the blaze at 4.10am today.

He arrived home to find the area around his TV alight.

He dialled 999 and four engines raced to the scene.

Residents were evacuated as a precaution.

Firefighters left the scene at around 5.40am and recorded the cause of the blaze as accidental.

Crews were also called out this morning to deal with a car which went up in flames on Milton Road, Hoyland, Barnsley.

The cause of the fire is unknown.

They also dealt with a wheelie bin fire started accidentally.
