Researching Totley’s heroes

Have your say

Along with two other members of Totley History Group I am researching the lives of the 10 Totley men named on our war memorial. We have family contacts and photos for five of them but would love to find the descendents of the other five and even better to find photographs of them.

The men are Colin Hedley Bishop, born 1893 in Dore, to Colin and Mary Ellen Bishop. This family moved to Totley around 1901 and lived at Ivy Cottage on Mill Lane.

Tom Fisher, born October 10, 1893 at Hallfield Farm, Totley, to Francis and Emma Fisher. They later lived near Summer Lane/Hillfoot Road.

James Parker, born June 8, 1888 to John Henry and Rosa Parker, of Summer Lane, Totley. We know there is a connection with the Newbould family through Rosa Parker.

Finally there are brothers Charles Turner, born 1892 and Bernard, born 1897 sons of Charles and Hannah Turner, of Hillfoot Road, Totley.

If anyone recognizes these as members of their family we’d love to hear of any information and/or photographs you would be willing to share.

We’ve already published articles about each of the men in Totley Independent and Dore to Door and plan a small book about them later this year. My e-mail is
