The best friend of a man who killed himself tragically three years ago has organised a fundraiser at their local pub in his honour.
Josh Hill grew up with Danny Cavill in Godric Drive, Brinsworth, Rotherham, before the 21-year old ended his life in May 2011.
Police were criticised at his inquest for failing to send out a helicopter which could have saved his life because staff were coming to the end of their shift.
Danny was later found hanged at Sitwell Park Golf Course, Rotherham.
Now The Three Magpies pub will host a fundraising evening on April 12 with wristbands being sold and collection buckets available – and the public encouraged to attend in fancy dress.
The date has been chosen to be as close as possible to Danny’s birthday on April 13, and will be the third year Josh and his friends have organised a fundraiser for Danny.
Money raised will go towards charity Survivors of Bereavement by Suicide’s Sheffield branch.
There will then be a fundraiser at Funkiez nightclub in Corporation Street, Rotherham, which will see a proportion of ticket sales go to the charity.
Josh, aged 24, said: “Danny was the life and soul of the party. It was very unexpected – the last person you would ever expect it of. He was always making people laugh and making jokes.
“It’s not a big charity, so any money raised will really make a difference
“There has been an increase in suicide in the South Yorkshire area so the group is getting bigger, and the money raised could potentially fund a move to a bigger venue.”
