It began with a wrangle over clearance due to his arrival from Rangers, who were having a bit of bother at the time, to say the least.
And after close to 40 appearances, a lot of them from the bench, two goals (one of them superb, against Charlton) and a short loan spell at Portsmouth, the once highly-rated midfielder was on his way out of Hillsborough having been deemed surplus to requirements.

Hide AdFrom here he went back to his native Scotland to sign for Dunfermline playing in Scottish League One and then the Championship before his contract ran out and the 25 year old was off again.
Next up on his tour was the League of Ireland, with Sligo Rovers and he registered his first goal of the season this weekend in stunning fashion against Limerick.
After Sligo won a free kick in their own half, McCabe reacted quickly to spot the Limerick keep off the line and let fly with a 60 yard lob which sailed into the goal.
Not a bad way to get off the mark.
