City leaders have stepped in to save parish councils from a funding black hole.
Sheffield Council has pledged to make up for a £200,000-plus shortfall in Stocksbridge, Bradfield and Ecclesfield budgets following the removal of a Government grant.
The move was decided at the city council’s budget meeting after parish councillors said they would be forced to raise precepts – hitting hard-pressed residents.
Stocksbridge Town Coun Richard Crowther said: “I’m pleased that the council have stepped in to provide this support for Stocksbridge.
“The cut to this grant would have left the town council facing big cuts to the budget.”
