Rejected store plan now set for approval in Manor

Plans to build a new Lidl supermarket which were previously rejected are set to get the go-ahead tomorrow.

Sheffield Council’s planning committee turned down the application for the junction of Castlebeck Avenue and Prince of Wales Road, Manor, in January because of a ‘poor design’ which was ‘detrimental to the character of the area’.

Amended proposals are now recommended for approval, subject to conditions, as planners believe they ‘respond sufficiently’ to the problems raised.

A proposed electricity sub-station has been moved away from homes and planners said changes to the design addressed ‘the need for a more positive presence on this key gateway site’.

Shared access to the site is now also not thought to be a danger to pedestrian safety.
