A recycling firm which performs a role done by only four companies in the country has been given permission to construct a new building on its Barnsley site.

Electrical transformers are dismantled by C Soar and Sons at their premises in Tank Row, Stairfoot, and the new building will mean the work can be done undercover, rather than in the open at present.

Barnsley Council granted planning permission for the development after councillors on the planning board were told there were no objections from neighbours or others consulted over the change.

The site is alongside an industrial estate and too far from homes for residents to be affected by the change.

The workshop will be a triangular shape when built, more than 40 metres long at one side, to a height of just over 11 metres.
