Recycling by Reclaim charity up 90 per cent over last year

THEIR work might be a load of old rubbish - but Sheffield charity Reclaim is breaking all records!

The organisation’s rate of recycling tin cans and plastics has soared by a staggering 90 per cent in Sheffield over the last year.

And that rise has broken city records, with the company collecting more than 100 tonnes of cans and plastics for the third consecutive month.

Reclaim, which helps people with learning difficulties and mental health problems get into the workplace, is now recruiting more staff to cope with the increased demand.

The news follows a decision by Veolia Environmental Services to collect from Sheffield’s most frequently-used recycling banks seven days a week.

Judith Turner, director of operations, waste collection and recycling at Veolia in Sheffield, said: “We decided to put on the extra collections at a number of sites across the city to cope with increased demand.

“These results are phenomenal and we thank the residents of Sheffield for their continued support in recycling.”
