Recycling art in Games project

SCULPTURES will be created with recycled materials to celebrate the London 2012 Olympics.

Barnsley YMCA Learning Centre is working with young people aged eight to 16 and of all abilities on the project as part of a special games art programme exploring various sports and Olympians.

It has received a £2,462 grant for the work from the Newham Barnsley Partnership Aspiration and Achievement Fund, which was formed after Barnsley set up an innovative partnership with the Olympic host borough of Newham in 2008 as a unique way of spreading the legacy of the Games.

The group has visited galleries, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park and the English Institute of Sport to research Olympic icons for ther work.
