More than 70 guests attended an open day for a gift appeal which aims to ensure no local child goes without a present this Christmas.
Visitors representing businesses across South Yorkshire were welcomed to The Star-backed Cash for Kids Mission Christmas open day at Hallam FM.
The supporters were told some 9,000 applications for gifts have already been received – a record start in the campaign’s history.
Hallam FM Cash for Kids charity manager Allan Ogle said: “We’ve had a very encouraging start to this amazing campaign with so many pledges of support from communities and local businesses signing up as drop off points to help us collect gifts.
“It’s unbearable to think there are children where we live that could wake up without gifts this Christmas. We all have a responsibility to ensure this doesn’t happen.
“We put on our open day at Hallam FM to give our supporters the opportunity to come and get closer to the operation and get pictures to share with their colleagues.
“We are overwhelmed by the amount of people signing up to help.”
Applications for gifts come from such organisations as social services, food banks, community groups and charities which work with children living in poverty and could miss out on receiving a gift on Christmas Day.
Last year’s record-breaking appeal resulted in the Hallam FM Cash for Kids Mission Christmas appeal delivering gifts to 17,531 children. The closing date for dropping off gifts this year is December 14.
