The city’s Astronomincal Society is hosting the live sungazing session on Saturday, between 2pm and 6pm, at Mayfield Environmental Centre, David Lane, Fulwood.

Mike Mills, of Sheffield Astronomical Society, said: “We are inviting people to come and observe the sun and see sunspots and solar flares safely using the society’s specialist equipment. There is also the chance to talk to society astronomers and find out some amazing things about our nearest star.”

He added: “The event is suitable for all age groups. However, it is weather dependent and entirely outdoors.”
