Police are expecting more travelling away fans on coaches than ever before when Sheffield Wednesday host Scottish giants Rangers.

The all-ticket pre-season friendly at Hillsborough on Wednesday, July 24 also coincides with a Grand Prix cycle race in the city centre which is expected to finish at the same time as the match.

Chief Inspector Iain Chorlton, football match commander, said: “My job as commander for this fixture is to ensure the safety of the fans and the community, as well as minimise any impact the match may have on the city.

“We are expecting more coaches than we have ever had to accommodate previously and, therefore, I would like to ask people travelling by coach to work with us to ensure they do not miss the kick off.

“I would ask they meet at the rendezvous point where police will assist in getting people to the ground.

“Not meeting at this point may result in a delay to the ground.”
