FORECASTERS predict heavy snowfall could be over for the rest of the week – but warned wintry conditions will remain in South Yorkshire.
Experts said today was not due to see a repeat of the weather which covered Sheffield, Barnsley and Rotherham in a blanket of white yesterday.
Rain and sleet was predicted to fall in most areas today and chances of snow are limited to higher ground. Cold temperatures – which could dip to freezing overnight – were expected to cause blankets of ice.
These will continue into Thursday morning. While snowfall appears to be over for now, the forecast for the remainder of the week suggests it could return.
Sean Penston, of Meteogroup, said: “It will ease off in the next two days but still be cold.
“It’s early but there’s potential for snow at the weekend.”
