Railway blocked and services cancelled near Meadowhall due to 'emergency incident'

The railway between Meadowhall and Barnsley is blocked this morning due to an ‘emergency incident’.

National Rail Inquiries said all lines are blocked while emergency services are at the scene.

Details on the nature of the incident being dealt with have not yet been released.

The firm said: “Emergency services are dealing with an incident between Meadowhall and Barnsley. So they can safely do their work, all lines are currently blocked.

“Trains running between these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or diverted.”

Northern services are affected, with disruption expected until 9am.

Replacement J&B and Ross Travel coaches will run between Barnsley and Meadowhall.

A train service will be in operation between Meadowhall and Sheffield.

Train services will divert between Wakefield Kirkgate and Meadowhall and will not call at Darton, Barnsley, Wombwell, Elsecar and Chapeltown, but replacement J&B and Ross Travel coaches will run between Wakefield Kirkgate and Meadowhall.
