Four men armed with a gun burst into a house in Sheffield with two children inside.
They struck at a property on Donovan Road, Parson Cross, on Tuesday night, in what detectives believe is a 'targeted attack'.
South Yorkshire Police said four masked men were involved in the raid, in which the occupant of the house was threatened with a gun and property was damaged.
Nobody was hurt during the incident, including two children who were in the house at the time.
Nothing was taken by the culprits.
A South Yorkshire Police spokesman said: "It is reported that four masked men entered the house at 10.50pm on Tuesday, May 2, when they threatened the occupant with a firearm and damaged property.
"The male occupant prevented the offenders from gaining full entry to his home and nothing was taken.
"None of the occupants, including two young children, were injured."
Witnesses or anyone with information should call South Yorkshire Police on 101.
