Radio star tunes in to Sheffield for Sport Relief challenge

For the BBC Radio One presenter is forsaking the DJ booth to pound the city’s streets in a charity triathlon - one of five he will complete for Comic Relief.

Greg, who will undertake his challenge in Sheffield on February 11, told The Star: “Sheffield is a great city, I have had some amazing nights out there - I can confirm that there will be no nights out this time though!

“I’d love to but I think it might be foolish.”

Greg will swim a mile in Ponds Forge, run ten miles and cycle 45 miles in Sheffield, just weeks before the flagship Sainsbury’s Sport Relief Games is held in the city in March.

He will also broadcast his show live from each of the five locations that he is visiting.

“I think that’s part of the fun for the listeners, that they will hear a man at the end of his tether”, he said.

The star was inspired, like many celebrities, to go the extra mile after visiting some of the projects that Comic Relief supports, including families in Jordan.

He said: “I met some of the families that have been affected by the crisis in Syria.

“They have had to leave everyone they love, their schools, friends, families and jobs because it was too dangerous.

“Its devastating because they are just like you and me, very normal families, but who have lost everything,

“They need help to rebuild and that will really spurr me on - I have got those kids’ faces in the back of my mind.”

The flagship games will allow members of the public to run, swim or cycle around Sheffield city centre to raise cash for Comic Relief on Sunday March 20 - in an event that combines fun and fundraising.
