Racing preview for Tuesday, May 24

Ickymasho looks set to give a bold account in the Family Fun Day Monday 8th August Fillies' Handicap at Wolverhampton.

The Jonathan Portman-trained four-year-old made noteworthy progress when switched to the all-weather towards the end of last year, winning both at Kempton and at this Dunstall Park track, as well as running with credit at Chelmsford.

That she also seemed to relish a mile and a half on a synthetic surface does not go unnoticed, and with all that in mind there was not too much lost in defeat on her return to action at Chepstow last month under vastly different circumstances.

Running on ground with plenty of cut in it and over an inadequate 10 furlongs was never really going to see her to best advantage, but there was nonetheless merit in the performance.

Sure to be sharper for it, and with the in-form George Baker doing the steering, she is firmly expected to be in the shake-up back up in trip and back on Tapeta.

There is every chance Baker can make it a double with Ballard Down for William Knight in the in the Visit wolverhampton-racecourse.co.uk Handicap.

A lightly-raced son of Canford Cliffs, he was seen just twice in his juvenile year, and then not until December, picking up a Kempton maiden on his second start, looking useful in the process.

That impression was confirmed in his reappearance in what looked a solid 17-runner three-year-old old handicap at Ascot, finishing fourth and coming home well having been held up through the early stages.

There is undoubtedly more to come, and most likely in better races than this.

Evenlode might take a bit of beating in the At The Races App On Android Maiden Stakes.

David Barron’s charge found only the much more experienced Udontdodou too good at Thirsk, and the winner has advertised his talents again since.
