Quiet corner at oldest school

A NEW ‘quiet corner’ was opened by the Bishop of Sheffield Dr Steven Croft at South Yorkshire’s oldest school.

Dr Croft visited Rotherham’s Laughton CofE Primary as part of the school’s 400th anniversary celebrations.

The pupils helped produce the order of service and they contributed prayers and readings.

Some of the children recited Shakespeare’s All the World’s a Stage soliloquy and the younger pupils sang My God is so Big.

Headteacher Anita Burtoft said: “We enjoyed the service which enabled us to give thanks to God for the past 400 years. We are the oldest school in South Yorkshire and are grateful for all that we have to give thanks for. And, of course, we look forward to the future also.”
