Quick-fire Jesse Schultz will find the net for Sheffield Steelers

The 6ft right winger was second top-scorer for SC Riessersee last season, in the second level of ice hockey in Germany.

Previous to that, the 33-year-old was the primary marksman for Rapid City Rush, in South Dakota, USA, for two seasons.

Wherever he plays, he has scored goals, including Vancouver Canucks, where he bagged a brace, in 2006-07.

“Last year we lost Colton Fretter and Rob Dowd for long periods with injuries and they are shooters who can score from the outside. Schultz will help us with that and on the Power Play, in particular.”

The offensive special teams’ output of goals was one of the key frustrations for the coach last season. “We need to be more dominant in that area” said the coach.

“Schultz has a a great shot, amongst other things in his skill set, and as a right hander he has added another element we need.

“He might remind some people of a Michael Forney-type player when he played in Sheffield, he had such a good quick release.

“Schultz always has an eye for the net and like other good goalscorers he also has a knack of finding the right pass - it comes from having such good vision.

“He played with Tyler Mosienko in the juniors (Kelowna Rockets) and Germany (Nuermberg Ice Tigers) and is a good guy as well as having such technical ability. He should be a great fit.”

n Forney, who scored 25+34 (59 pts) in 62 games in his first season with Belfast, says he is excited to be re-joining their side next season.
