Quarter of mums smoke

NEARLY a quarter of expectant mums brought into Doncaster Royal Infirmary to have their babies during June were smokers.

Figures from the DRI reveal that of 307 new mums in June, 194 mothers were non smoking, 79 were smokers, while 34 did not confirm their status.

In nearby Bassetlaw, run by the same hospitals trust, 76 out of 120 were non smoking, 26 were smokers, and 18 did not confirm their status.

Public health experts warn mothers-to-be against smoking because it could harm their unborn child.
