Purple route trams partly restored across Sheffield after suspension, Supertram announces

Purple route trams are set to partially resume across Sheffield from Thursday, December 10.

Stagecoach Supertram has announced that one of the trams that was damaged in the {http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/local/video-update-passengers-hear-almighty-bang-as-two-trams-crash-in-sheffield-1-7529370|two tram crash at Shalesmoor - CLICK HERE|has been repaired and returned to service.

On Sunday, Stagecoach announced that it was suspending all Purple route trams during the daytime due to a lack of tram availability.

But the unpopular move has now been partly reversed, and the Purple route is set to return in a limited capacity from Thursday.

The re-introduced route will not run to Meadowhall from Monday to Saturday, but will go between Herdings Park and Cathedral.

The route will run as follows:

Monday to Friday - services will operate between Herdings Park and Cathedral. Customers to or from Meadowhall should change at Fitzalan Square and cross to the opposite platform

• Earlier departures from Herdings Park at 25 and 55 minutes past the hour from the start of service until 1925, when the normal timetable resumes

• Later departures from Cathedral at 21 and 51 minutes past the hour from the start of service until 2006, when the normal timetable resumes

Saturday - services will operate between Herdings Park and Cathedral. Customers to or from Meadowhall should change at Fitzalan Square and cross to the opposite platform

• Departures from Herdings Park at the normal times as per the timetable

• Earlier departures from Cathedral at 23 and 53 minutes past the hour from the start of service until 1854, when the normal timetable resumes

• A normal service will continue to operate to the published timetable between Herdings Park and Meadowhall via Cathedral.

A Stagecoach statgement said: “As the tram has returned to service, there is no need for a replacement bus service and therefore it has been cancelled.

“Outside of the times above, Purple services will operate to the normal timetable.

“We’d like to apologise for any inconvenience caused as a result of recent and ongoing changes to the Purple route and thank all affected customers for their patience.

“We’ll provide updates in due course regarding the resumption of the full Purple route service to Meadowhall.”
